Are Hot Tubs Healthy For You? Part 1

Are hot tubs healthy for you? This two part series will explore this topic.

Want a Good Night's Sleep? Get a Hot Tub

Hot tubs have proven health benefits. One benefit is improved circulation. When you improve your circulation, you will also find that a lot of aches and pains will stop. However, it isn't just improved circulation that is a strong point for hot tubs. Did you know they also can help you to get a good night's sleep.
According to LIVESTRONG.COM: "Hot tubs can relieve stress and improve sleep. The massaging jets and soothing heat help to reduce tension which may make it easier to fall asleep. The weightlessness effect produced by the buoyancy of the water can also be relaxing. Sitting in a hot tub raises body temperature, and the drop in body temperature that occurs after getting out of a hot tub may also induce sleep. Studies suggest that spending 15 minutes in a hot tub 90 minutes before bedtime can lead to an improved night's sleep." SOURCE ARTICLE

Hot Tubs and Improved Sleep

Why is a good night's sleep so important?  Well, as we age, we still require the same amount of sleep that we did when we were younger, however, it is harder to stay asleep. As we are cut short of sleep it has a proven effect on our overall health including some more serious health concerns such as high blood pressure and heart disease.  Again, to remind you, using a hot tub not only improves your circulation, it helps you to fall asleep faster and sleep a lot deeper.  This in turn helps you to control your stress throughout the day.
So let's see.  Improved circulation, better sleep, lower stress.  Pretty good arguments to buy a hot tub, don't you think?

Hot Tubs and Health Part 3

Part three of a series on hot tubs and health explores some more scenarios from some of our customers.

Hot Tubs and Back Pain

"Hi, I'm Anna, and I use a hot tub for back pain.  In 2009, I was in a bad auto accident.  A guy rear-ended my car driving me into oncoming traffic and causing another car to crash into my car.  My car was totaled and I was badly injured.  A great many of the injuries healed up, but my back was still hurting.  I used to use the jacuzzi at my health club, however, after a while, it got to be too much effort because the only time I could go was when it was crowded.
My husband and I decided to buy a hot tub, and what a difference it made.  Now my pain has been reduced significantly, and I can do a lot of the activities I used to do again, such as ballroom dancing and hiking.    If you don't think a hot tub can make a difference, believe me it really can. "

My Hot Tub and Fibromyalgia

"My name is Marcia, and  I've suffered from fibromyalgia for a great many years.  Sometimes, something as simple as going to the grocery store can be  excruciating.  I'd wake up in the middle of the night, unable to sleep anymore because of how much pain I was in.
My doctor recommended I get a hot tub.  I decided to buy a reconditioned hot tub because it was what I could afford. I was amazed at the results.  My pain level dropped almost to nothing, and I was able to enjoy my life once again."
Spa use has been linked to improved health and well-being, and a lot of medical professionals advocate it.  So as you see whether you're looking for stress relief or pain relief, buying a hot tub may be your answer.

Hot Tubs and Health Part 2

Part two of a series on hot tubs and health explores some actual testimonials from some of our customers.

Testimonial 1: Hot Tubs and Arthritis

"My name is Roger, I am 67 years old, and I have osteoarthritis.  Notice I said I have osteoarthritis, not that I suffer from osteoarthritis. Oh, I used to, and believe me I tried everything on my own.  My pain level was often so bad it would wake me up at night.  I'd take an ibuprofen and it would help somewhat, but usually the pain would be back within a few hours.  I read up on pain relievers and what concerned me was the fact that if I used them long enough, I'd get liver disease.  Both my doctor and my physical therapist recommended that I get a hot tub for my arthritis.
I was skeptical of it working, but I didn't want to lose my mobility and I was tired of nearly constant pain.  So I finally called Sunset, and they recommended a California Cooperage spa, and it worked like a charm.  I started sleeping through the night for the first time in years."

Testimonial 2: Hot Tubs and Type 2 Diabetes

My name is Carol, I have type 2 diabetes, and my hot tub has been a godsend ever since I bought it.  When I was diagnosed, I thought the world had ended.  I remembered crying in my doctor's office.  However, he calmed me down by recommending I try hot tub therapy for diabetes.  I read up on it, and he was right.  Hot tubs are recommended by the American Diabetes Association.  And when I tried it, it reduced my blood sugar levels and allowed me to sleep through the night.
Using a spa is a good strategy to improve your health.  So whether you're looking for stress relief, or overall health, you may want to think about buying a hot tub.

Hot Tubs and Health Part 1

Hot Tubs and Healing

Hot tubs do more than just relax away knots and tension.  A hot tub is good for healing.  Take a look at sore muscles for example. With your hot tub jets going, your water will be highly oxygenated. Hot, oxygenated water promotes healing throughout the body by increasing white blood cells and endorphin levels. These two things alone causes injured cells to be destroyed, and new healthy tissue to form.
Have you ever wondered why athletes soak in a hot tub after a workout or a game? In addition to the relaxing effect of the water, soaking also helps speed up healing and keep them in peak condition.   However, it isn't just healing that can happen in a hot tub, there are also exercises that you can do in a hot tub that are very effective in improving your fitness level as well as pain management and flexibility.

Hot Tubs Are Recommended For Your Health

In addition to healthy, low impact exercise, hot tubs are also recommended by the Arthritis Foundation to help with arthritis symptoms.    Even using a hot tub one day a week can make a significant difference on your health and well-being.  Because you are actively trying to reduce your stress level, you are giving your body more energy to fight disease and injury, and repair cell damage.
So as you see, there is a lot more to a spa than just bubbles and jets.  If you buy a hot tub, you are also buying yourself a ticket to better health.
