How Effective is Hot Tub Therapy?

How effective is hot tub therapy?  Well, hot tubs have a proven effect on blood circulation, stress relief, and pain management.  For a patient suffering from arthritis, for example, the combination of heat, buoyancy and massage that a hot tub provides often benefits from a greater level of health.  Let's take a look at each of the benefits that a hot tub provides.
Blood circulation is an important part of your body's functioning that most people take for granted. Most people have anywhere from eight to ten pints of blood. As your blood circulates, it carries oxygen from our lungs, helps to clear waste. As we age, our circulation decreases. To have a better level of health it is important to exercise, diet and employ other strategies to improve circulation. One strategy that works really well is some time in a hot tub.
How important is stress relief? While stress is a part of life, you never want it to overwhelm you as stress can have a wide range of negative effects on your psychological and physical health. Stress is a contributing factor to hypertension, heart disease, and autoimmune disorders such as psoriasis and gingivitis. Time in a hot tub can make a big difference in your stress level, and is one of the more effective methods of stress relief.

Pain Management

Although pain is one of nature's warning signs to help prevent injury, pain can also result from age and have a negative effect on our quality of life. Pain can cause our stress levels to increase which also causes some negative side effects as well. Healing is delayed when we're in pain as our bodies have to allocate resources to combat the pain. Without pain control, our immune system can be compromised. Pain can cause compounds in your body to be released through your bloodstream that make your work and home life suffer. Hot tubs have a proven effect where pain management is concerned. And with reduced levels of pain, your overall health improves significantly as well.

Is a hot tub all you will need to have a good level of health? Of course not. You will still need to have a check up with your doctor every six months to a year, and watch what you eat. Get some exercise and more than enough sleep. And most of all buy a hot tub in Phoenix.

Hot Tub Therapy and Pain

Hot tub therapy relieves pain.  Pain can be categorized in one of two ways: acute pain and chronic.  According to the site WEBMD.COM:
"Acute pain begins suddenly and is usually sharp in quality. It serves as a warning of disease or a threat to the body. Acute pain may be caused by many events or circumstances, such as:
Surgery
Broken bones
Dental work
Burns or cuts
Labor and childbirth
Acute pain may be mild and last just a moment, or it may be severe and last for weeks or months. In most cases, acute pain does not last longer than six months and it disappears when the underlying cause of pain has been treated or has healed. Unrelieved acute pain, however, may lead to chronic pain.
What Is Chronic Pain?
Chronic pain persists longer than 3 months, often despite the fact that an injury has healed. Pain signals remain active in the nervous system for weeks, months, or years. Physical effects include tense muscles, limited mobility, a lack of energy, and changes in appetite. Emotional effects include depression, anger, anxiety, and fear of re-injury. Such a fear may hinder a person's ability to return to normal work or leisure activities. Common chronic pain complaints include:
Headache
Low back pain
Cancer pain
Arthritis pain
Neurogenic pain (pain resulting from damage to nerves)
Psychogenic pain (pain not due to past disease or injury or any visible sign of damage inside)
Chronic pain may have originated with an initial trauma/injury or infection, or there may be an ongoing cause of pain. However, some people suffer chronic pain in the absence of any past injury or evidence of body damage.
Depending upon its severity, pain may be treated in a number of ways. [READ MORE]

Hot tubs do more than just relax away knots and tension.  A hot tub is good for healing.  Take a look at sore muscles for example. With your hot tub jets going, your water will be highly oxygenated. Hot, oxygenated water promotes healing throughout the body by increasing white blood cells and endorphin levels. These two things alone causes injured cells to be destroyed, and new healthy tissue to form.
Have you ever wondered why athletes soak in a hot tub after a workout or a game? In addition to the relaxing effect of the water, soaking also helps speed up healing and keep them in peak condition.   However, it isn't just healing that can happen in a hot tub, there are also exercises that you can do in a hot tub that are very effective in improving your fitness level as well as pain management and flexibility.

Hot Tubs Are Recommended For Your Health

In addition to healthy, low impact exercise, hot tubs are also recommended by the Arthritis Foundation to help with arthritis symptoms.    Even using a hot tub one day a week can make a significant difference on your health and well-being.  Because you are actively trying to reduce your stress level, you are giving your body more energy to fight disease and injury, and repair cell damage.
So as you see, there is a lot more to a spa than just bubbles and jets.  If you buy a hot tub, you are also buying yourself a ticket to better health.
This concludes part one of our series.  For more information on hot tubs and health please read part two and part three as well.
