How to Buy the Right Hot Tub Accessories

What is the difference between a spa and the best hot tub ever? Well, put simply, what you add to it.

What Hot Tub Accessories Should You Get?

What hot tub accessories should you get?  Well, some accessories don't require too much thought.  Spa steps are a great place to start.  That way it is easy to climb out of and sink into a tub.  Another nice addition is a spa surround.  You can surround your hot tub with beautiful stone which complements your decor, and makes your hot tub look like it is some sort of mineral spring in Yellowstone.  What you want to think about is the image that the tub will have as well as how useful the accessories are.
A hot tub can become a showpiece with an LED light system that changes colors.  And what can add to your relaxation?  Why listening to some of your favorite music with a state of the art digital sound system.  But what about if you need a spa cover.

Spa Covers and Umbrellas

If your hot tub is out in the sun, you're going to need a few things.  First off, you're going to need a spa cover to cover it when you're not using it, and you're probably going to need a spa umbrella as well.  Why?  Well, if you cover your hot tub, it helps to keep dirt out, which can also help to prolong your spa filter as well as make it easy to clean your hot tub as well.  As for the umbrella, while it can be hot even in the shade out here in Arizona, an umbrella also helps to reduce your risk of harmful UV rays as well as helping to keep the water in your hot tub from evaporating or developing algae.
So remember, you want to shoot for more than just a hot tub.  You want both you and any guests you have to look at your home not as a place with a hot tub, but more like a mini-resort.  How do you do that?  Well, for one, maybe decorate around your tub with some plants.  So remember, be a good host or hostess.  Be convivial, and greet your guests with a smile.  And when it is time to get into the tub, make sure that you buy hot tub accessories that add to your whole hot tub experience.

What is a Swim Spa?

What is a swim spa? This article will answer this question and provide some information that will help you to decide if such a spa is right for you.

Buying a Swim Spa

Let's say you want a pool.  Great! Slight problem.  You have a condo, and  a 20 foot backyard. You don't really want a hot tub, and the nearest gym with a pool is over 15 miles from your home.   What is the solution? Why, a swim spa of course.  And they are very good additions to any home.

You control the current, and you can swim against it.  You won't have to do laps like you would in a pool, and it will not only relax you, but provide you with a bit of exercise.  Swim spas are the next step up from a hot tub, and just below a swimming pool.  And they are very versatile.

What Can I Do With a Swim Spa?

Well, for one, let's say you have a child who is scared of a swimming pool.  You can teach him or her how to swim in a safer environment than deep water.  And since it is essentially a smaller swimming pool, you can have the same sort of fun that you would have in a pool and in some models, you can split it into a hot tub on one side and a swim spa on the other.  The exercise and health benefits alone make it worth having.

One of the biggest health risks in the United States is heart disease.  However, the risk of it can be reduced significantly if you know what to do.  For one thing, if you get a minimum of thirty minutes to an hour of exercise at least 3 days a week can reduce your risk of heart disease and other health problems by up to 70%.  Swimming is one of the best physical activities that you can do.  It is very low-impact, helps with stress relief, and people who swim are more likely to be relaxed than people who do other, more strenuous forms of exercise.  So if you don't have access to a pool, a swim spa might be the best option you've got .

So remember, you want to make sure that you shop around.  Figure out what you need, and how to get it.  Then when you're ready find a hot tub dealer in your area.

How To Find the Right Hot Tub

How do you find the right hot tub?  While there are several different ways, one of the best ways is to answer some questions.

Hot Tub Dealers and Consultative Sales

hot tub dealer will use a consultative sales process, which is essentially a fancy word meaning that you just have to answer a few questions. Here are a few sample questions:
How many people do you want to be able to accommodate in your spa? What's your budget like?
Is there a particular brand you're interested in?
Do you want a reconditioned spa or a new hot tub?
How many jets do you think you want?
And more.
Why questions work well is it helps to match the right hot tub to the right customer.  A couple who are essentially homebodies probably wouldn't need an eight person tub, and inversely, someone who invites friends over all the time wouldn't need a two person hot tub unless they were planning to have everyone take a ticket in order to soak in the spa.

Should I Get a New Hot Tub or a Reconditioned One?

A lot of people have a knee-jerk response to the words "reconditioned spa."  Why?  Well, sometimes if a dealer is less than reputable, they won't warranty a reconditioned spa, or provide a customer with a warranty on parts that hardly ever break down.  Look at some of the swap meets for example.  Some of them have hot tubs at supposedly great prices, however, they leave off some things, such as the fact that the hot tub is over twenty years old, and is starting to crack because unbeknownst to you, it's fiberglass, not acrylic.  If you're going for reconditioned, make sure you have a good warranty and don't let the salesperson pressure you into buying it or any other type of spa.
Remember, that whenever you make a purchase, you want to make sure you're getting the most for your money, and you also want to make sure you're getting what you really want and need.  Know what your budget is, both for your electric bill as well as your water bill.  Think about whether you're going to use the hot tub yourself, or whether you're going to have some guests over every now and again.  So ask some questions, and do a bit of research.  And finally, make sure you find a hot tub dealer with a low-pressure sales approach.

Hot Tubs and Which Exercises to Do

A lot of people trying to get into better shape have a lot of questions like "which exercises should I do?" "Should I get a personal trainer?" "I'm thinking of trying the _____ Diet, does it work?" "Does a hot tub help after exercise?
There is a lot of information out there about exercise and health.  A lot of the information out there contradicts other information.  So one expert will state that exercising three days out of every week is the standard, while another expert will say that someone should only exercise three days out of every week.  The very first thing anyone should do before they start any exercise program is to consult a physician.  You also have to know your base level of fitness.  Someone who is very overweight shouldn't try a Navy SEALS workout, and someone in peak physical condition won't be challenged by a low impact, low exertion workout.  As to whether you should get a personal trainer that depends on the results you're looking for and your budget of course.  Sometimes, though if you buy a hot tub, it can indeed help with whatever workout you're thinking of doing.

Diets and Using a Hot Tub

The diet industry is a 20 billion dollar a year industry, and why?  Well, here's a tip from your hot tub dealer.  A lot of diets do NOT work.  Every year or so, another diet comes out, and that's not always a good thing. Some diets can cause health problems, particularly those where the dieter eliminates massive amounts of carbohydrates and fats.
While it is a good idea to balance your meals, and control your portion sizes, going to extremes can bring more problems.  And for some people, a diet can work wonders, while to another, it does little to nothing.  A better way to lose weight is to practice portion control, reduce the intake of certain foods, and get plenty of rest, and that's where a hot tub comes in.
A hot tub is one of the things that has been proven to give someone a better night's sleep.  Without sufficient rest, your body will be sluggish when you exercise.
Living a healthy lifestyle is all about choices.  Instead of a high calorie dessert, go for something healthy that  is also tasty, like fruit.  Above all else, get  a hot tub.
This concludes part two of our series on hot tubs and improving your health.  Be sure to read part one as well.
